2 Tone Connections

Commissioned especially for the Herbert Art Gallery's 2 Tone: Lives & Legacies exhibition 2021, 2 Tone Connections is a large-scale art installation presenting a cursory overview of the history of Ska and 2 Tone.

The piece, consisting of eighty-six hand-rendered points of connection, brings together just some of the many musicians, DJs, producers, and record labels that make up the 2-Tone story; from the 1st wave pioneers of 1960’s Jamaican Ska, to the 2nd wave Ska revival, to the 3rd wave Ska punk movement and contemporary musicians of today.
Researched and produced by Coventry artist, Maff. All artwork was created using acrylic ink on three individual 2.4m x 1m high quality plywood boards, all sealed with hard-wearing Krylon varnish to ensure durability and UV protection.
